PRINCE2®, which stands for Projects in Controlled Environments, is a project management method covering the organisation, management and control of projects. PRINCE2 was first developed by the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA) now part of the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) in 1989 as a UK Government standard for IT project management.
Since its introduction, PRINCE2 has become widely used in both the public and private sectors and is now the UK's de facto standard for project management. Although PRINCE2 was originally developed for the needs of IT projects, the method has also been used on many non-IT projects. The latest version of the method, PRINCE2, is designed to incorporate the requirements of existing users and to enhance the method towards a generic, best practice approach for the management of all types of projects.
The design and development work was undertaken by a consortium of project management specialists, under contract to OGC, and over 150 public and private sector organisations were involved in a Review Panel which provided valuable input and feedback to the consortium.
This is an examination based course, which gives delegates accreditation at PRINCE2 Practitioner level. The course equips delegates with a detailed knowledge and structure of the method, working through each stage of pre-project preparation and the project lifecycle. The course will detail how to initiate projects, including the documentation to be produced such as the Project Initiation Document and the Business Case. It will then move on to product delivery and controlling each stage of the project, from both the perspective of the Project Manager and the Project Board. The course will then address the issues surrounding project completion.
The course combines the Foundation course and follows on from successful completion of the Foundation exam, building on the delegate's knowledge of the structure and content of PRINCE2 and tunes this knowledge into an understanding of the practical application of the method which is being examined in the practitioner paper. Time will be given to assessing risks within the project, planning techniques and how to ensure a quality approach runs throughout the project.
Note: PRINCE2® is a Trade Mark of the Office of Government Commerce. The PRINCE2 Cityscape logo® is a Trade Mark of the Office of Government Commerce in the United Kingdom and other countries. Ownership of PRINCE2® belongs to the OGC and is managed by the APMG.
PRINCE2 stands for PRojects IN Controlled Environments and is a structured method for effective project management. The method is owned by the UK Government, but is provided license free to anyone who wishes to adopt it. It is now accepted throughout the UK as 'best practice' project management.
The key elements of this structured method are:
The key benefits of using PRINCE2 are:
A PRINCE2 project is divided into a number of stages, each forming a distinct unit for management purposes. The delivery of products to the agreed quality standards, marks the completion of the stage.
A project is divided into stages based upon:
PRINCE2 provides a structure of management controls to be applied throughout the project.
They are defined at Project Initiation to ensure:
These controls cover all aspects of project activity and, at the highest level, allow senior management to assess project achievement and status prior to committing further expenditure.
Controls are applied through meetings of project management and project staff, with each meeting producing a set of predefined outputs.
There are 2 levels of qualification. The Foundation Level demonstrates a detailed knowledge and understanding of the method and terminology, Practitioner Level demonstrates ability to practically apply this knowledge to project situations.
Other accelerated training providers rely heavily on lecture and independent self-testing and study.
Effective technical instruction must be highly varied and interactive to keep attention levels high, promote camaraderie and teamwork between the students and instructor, and solidify knowledge through hands-on learning.
This information has been provided as a helpful tool for candidates considering certification. Benefits of certification determined through studies do not guarantee any particular personal successes. Firebrand Training provides a guarantee of obtaining certification at the camp, but does not make any guarantees about personal successes or benefits of obtaining certification.
Firebrand Training's PRINCE2 Accelerated Certification Program is the most effective, efficient way to learn how to use the process-based approach for project management providing an easily tailored, and scalable method for the management of all types of projects.
Students attending this program will receive a robust set of course materials that caters to each of the three primary individual learning-intake styles (auditory, visual, and kinaesthetic-tactual) - critical for a successful accelerated learning experience.
Daily lectures, exercises, and review sessions are supplemented by a combination of:
The PRINCE2: Program prepares students to achieve two certifications during the program: Foundation and Practitioner.
The PRINCE2 Foundation Examination is a multiple-choice paper consisting of 75 questions. You will have one hour and you need 38 correct answers to pass.
The PRINCE2 Practitioner exam comprises 9 questions based around a scenario, each covering a different syllabus area which will be clearly identified within the question. Each of the nine questions is worth 40 marks and will be sub-divided into parts. This gives a total of 360 marks. The pass mark is 180 marks out of a possible 360.
You will have 3 hours to complete the PRINCE2 Practitioner Exam. All questions and part-questions are expected to be answered. You are allowed to reference the PRINCE2 manual in this exam but no other supporting materials are permitted.
Firebrand Training offers top-quality technical education and certification training in an all-inclusive course package specifically designed for the needs and ease of our students. We attend to every detail so our students can focus solely on their studies and certification goals.
Our instructors teach to accommodate every student's learning needs through individualised instruction, hands-on labs, lab partner and group exercises, independent study, self-testing, and question/answer drills.
Firebrand Training has dedicated, well-equipped educational facilities where you will attend instruction and labs and have access to comfortable study and lounging rooms. Our students consistently say our facilities are second-to-none.
Should a student complete a Firebrand Training Program without having successfully passed all vendor examinations, the student may re-attend that program for a period of one year. Students will only be responsible for accommodations and vendor exam fees.
Students that are successful in the PRINCE2 Accelerated Certification Program should possess a minimum of one and a half years of project management experience either directly as a project manager or as part of a team.
Firebrand Training staff interview all potential students regarding their technical background, degrees and certifications held, and personal fortitude. This screening process ensures a successful match between the customer and Firebrand Training toward accelerated training and certification.
Firebrand Training is an aggressive training environment. You must have an attitude aimed for success. The above prerequisites are guidelines, but many students with less experience have other background or traits that have enabled their success in accelerated training through Firebrand Training.
"It was an excellent total immersion course."

PRINCE2 Foundation/Practitioner (5 Days) (29/1/2007 to 2/2/2007)
"If i had to use one word to describe my Firebrand* experience it would have to be INTENSE. It gives you lots of information in a short amount of time - so you have to give it 110%. But, in all, it is a great experience. The instructor is brilliant, the course is very well structured - everybody is very helpful.
In all, when you leave Firebrand*, you feel...proud. It´s great!"
Manuela Barbu, Spellings Computer Services.
PRINCE2 Foundation/Practitioner (5 Days) (23/10/2006 to 27/10/2006)
"I was very impressed by the training and structure. Even though it is more expensive than other providers the course runs approx 12 hours a day. We even started lessons on the Sunday we arrived. Cost per hour is possibly less than other providers. The onsite facilities are good for learning. Basic without any distractions and the trainer was one of the best instructors I've had. Overall I believe this is the only way I would have passed my Prince exams. I would go back without hesitation.
"

"Being a women on her own, Firebrand* is a relaxing and welcoming environement that puts you at ease. My room was 2 minutes from the lesson room. The room was functional and clean. In the evenings there was a choice of vegetarian or non-vegetarian food and the food was excellent. Sandwiches or a hot meal for lunch and snacks, tea and coffee provided throughout the day. The training, instructor and course material were excellent. We finished at 7.30 most days although the instructor was there until 9.00. 100% of the people passed the foundation part, I just hope that we all pass the practioner."

PRINCE2 Foundation/Practitioner (5 Days) (21/5/2007 to 25/5/2007)
"The course did what it said on the label - an intensively focussed week! Be prepared for long days and late nights. You will need to do a lot of pre-reading (8-10hrs minimum) and any additional background reading/research would be helpful. You will need to take copious notes and have a clear head/brain all week! That said it was very interesting and Firebrand should be commended! I can't imagine how a non-residential course can cover the same material in such depth. Expensive but worth it!"
