Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) - Overview

Our seven-day Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) program is appropriate for professionals who use Microsoft technologies to develop and maintain department-level applications, components, Web or desktop clients, or back-end data services or work in teams developing enterprise applications.

The Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) for Microsoft .NET 1.1 credential is aimed at developers who use Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and the .NET Framework to develop, deploy, and maintain department-level applications and components for Microsoft Windows and the Web. These developers also build enterprise solutions incorporating data services and XML Web services.

The MCAD Certification validates job roles that include tasks such as building, testing, and supporting Windows and Web applications built on the Microsoft .NET 1.1 Framework, and .NET connected applications and services. Individuals working in this job role typically have at least one to two years of relevant work experience. The MCAD certification is appropriate for programmers, software analysts, and software developers.

To earn the MCAD credential, candidates are expected to have one to two years of relevant work experience or the equivalent in these functions. Typical job titles include programmer, program manager, and software applications specialist. As a MCAD for Microsoft .NET candidate, you will be required to pass two core exams and one elective exam in your area of specialization.

Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) - Benefits

Reasons for Microsoft MCAD certification include career advancement, personal improvement, skills enhancement, and higher salaries. Certification garners industry recognition of your knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft most current products and technologies.

Technical certification is a sound investment in your career. Although certification does not guarantee success, research has shown that it can have a significant impact on:

  • Morale and confidence
  • Efficiency and productivity on the job
  • Monetary rewards
  • Career advancement

Other accelerated training providers rely heavily on lecture and independent self-testing and study.

Effective technical instruction must be highly varied and interactive to keep attention levels high, promote camaraderie and teamwork between the students and instructor, and solidify knowledge through hands-on learning.

Firebrand Training provides instruction to meet every learning need, including

  • Intensive group instruction
  • One-on-one instruction attention
  • Hands-on labs
  • Lab partner and group exercises
  • Question and answer drills
  • Independent study

This information has been provided as a helpful tool for candidates considering certification. Benefits of certification determined through studies do not guarantee any particular personal successes. Firebrand Training provides a guarantee of obtaining certification at the camp, but does not make any guarantees about personal successes or benefits of obtaining certification.

Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (18/7/2005 to 24/7/2005)

Marc Nicol, Self Employed.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (16/10/2006 to 22/10/2006)

"It is amazing how much knowledge you gain in just week at Firebrand*. I came in with very little .Net experience and left with a Microsoft Certification and the confidence to go back and start my own .Net projects. Do not under estimate the amount of reading, you will live and breathe the course for the whole week and have little spare time!"
Donald McNeill, Self Employed.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (27/9/2004 to 3/10/2004)

"The hardest week of my working life, taught me that I can learn anything if I put my mind to it. Self-learning and discipline with Firebrand* is a joint venture and led to an overall positive experience. I passed 2 from 3 exams and wouldn't have been able to without this course."
Roger Copsey, MarketAxess Europe Ltd.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (14/5/2007 to 20/5/2007)

TC, ESRI UK.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (13/11/2006 to 19/11/2006)

"Gaining an MCAD in 7 days is a tall order, and as your literature states "Only the motivated need apply". The 18 hour days are no joke and have to be experienced to be believed. A week in the company of the instructor is reason enough to attend this course, he is no Powerpoint Parrot, he is clearly a talented real world developer who can transfer his comprehensive knowledge of .NET effectively and ensure that if you put in the effort, you will get your MCAD."
David Gray, E.ON UK.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (18/7/2005 to 24/7/2005)

"I've never been so tired in my life, but it was well worth it. The tutor imparted his knowledge with enthusiasm, and it was an enjoyable experience that I would do again."

Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (27/9/2004 to 3/10/2004)

"Because of the speed we covered material, I was concerned I would quickly forget. However (as Doug said we would) it's surprising how much a person can take in in a week. A great course. It's all about learning and no time for anyting else. Doug did a Fabulous job. I recommend it to everyone. "
Richard Houston, astechprojects ;td.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (6/12/2004 to 12/12/2004)

"The course was very intensive but was also very rewarding. I usually worked from about 8.30am until about 2am non-stop everyday for 7 days so you have to be pretty committed. It is amazing, however, what you can learn in 7 days. Having never done .NET before I managed to learn lots about .NET and pass all 3 exams and am now an MCAD. The instructor was 100% top noFirebrand*h and the course content was very good. I found the self-testing software very, very helpful. All in all I was 100% pleased with the course."
Guy Brown, Freestyle New Media Group.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (15/11/2004 to 21/11/2004)

"Firebrand* is evidence that time is trully relative. That is the only explanation I can give for absorbing so much in 7 days. The Instructor Doug, was execellent! Full marks!"
Mark O'Loughlin, LogicaCMG.com.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (13/10/2003 to 19/10/2003)

"The course covered a fantastic range of material in the week - giving me an ecellent overview of some technologies I was was unaware of - as well as helping me pass the MCAD in a week. You need to swiFirebrand*h the rest of your life off for the duration though! "
Jim Lyell, Bitlink Technology.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (8/12/2003 to 14/12/2003)

"This was a most enjoyable week even though it was probably the most intensive period of study I have ever experienced. I would recommend this course to anyone that wants to get MCAD certification quickly and is prepared to work at the intensity required. Firebrand* instructor Doug Rees was excellent. He really knows his subject and puts it over well and he provided lots of encouragement and helpful advice. I am very pleased to have met my own objectives and come away from the course as an MCAD."
Geoffrey Hughes, Self Employed.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (5/7/2004 to 11/7/2004)

"I can't recommend coming on the course enough. It has been a big commitment in terms of time and money but has been well worth it. The training has been top noFirebrand*h not only in terms of exam preparation, but also in enabling me to perform in my job a lot more effectively. The working environment has also been perfect. Almost every aspect of the camp has exceeded my expectations."
Michael Pierson, Expert-24.com.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (26/5/2003 to 1/6/2003)

"From start to finish my experience with Firebrand* was of the highest quality. Everything about the centre at Heythrop Park is conducive to hard work and learning and our teacher was excellent - knowledgable, friendly, enthusiastic and clear. It was very hard work indeed and sitting three exams in a week is no joke. However everyone was focused on the same thing and was very supportive of eachother. It truly is a hassle free environment where you can totally focus on your goals."
David Buist, Charteris Plc.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (15/8/2005 to 21/8/2005)

"The course was the most intensive and fast-moving learning I have ever experienced. An average nights sleep being five hours grabbed between reading. Not for the faint hearted then, but the knowledge gained in such a small amount of time, and the huge support given by all the staff of the camp to prop you up under all the pressure they put you under makes it all worth while. The trainers really are experts in their fields and go above and beyond the call of duty, lucidly explaining the most difficult concepts accurately and quickly."
Mark Ryan, Mortgages For Business.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (11/12/2006 to 17/12/2006)

"The intensity of the course reminded me of the Omaha Beach Landing section of Saving Private Ryan. But it was definately worth it and I passed."
JC, LogicaCMG.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (7/6/2004 to 13/6/2004)
