Day Course
Our seven-day Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) program is appropriate for professionals who use Microsoft technologies to develop and maintain department-level applications, components, Web or desktop clients, or back-end data services or work in teams developing enterprise applications.
The Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) for Microsoft .NET 1.1 credential is aimed at developers who use Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and the .NET Framework to develop, deploy, and maintain department-level applications and components for Microsoft Windows and the Web. These developers also build enterprise solutions incorporating data services and XML Web services.
The MCAD Certification validates job roles that include tasks such as building, testing, and supporting Windows and Web applications built on the Microsoft .NET 1.1 Framework, and .NET connected applications and services. Individuals working in this job role typically have at least one to two years of relevant work experience. The MCAD certification is appropriate for programmers, software analysts, and software developers.
To earn the MCAD credential, candidates are expected to have one to two years of relevant work experience or the equivalent in these functions. Typical job titles include programmer, program manager, and software applications specialist. As a MCAD for Microsoft .NET candidate, you will be required to pass two core exams and one elective exam in your area of specialization.
Reasons for Microsoft MCAD certification include career advancement, personal improvement, skills enhancement, and higher salaries. Certification garners industry recognition of your knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft most current products and technologies.
Technical certification is a sound investment in your career. Although certification does not guarantee success, research has shown that it can have a significant impact on:
Other accelerated training providers rely heavily on lecture and independent self-testing and study.
Effective technical instruction must be highly varied and interactive to keep attention levels high, promote camaraderie and teamwork between the students and instructor, and solidify knowledge through hands-on learning.
This information has been provided as a helpful tool for candidates considering certification. Benefits of certification determined through studies do not guarantee any particular personal successes. Firebrand Training provides a guarantee of obtaining certification at the camp, but does not make any guarantees about personal successes or benefits of obtaining certification.
Certification candidates must pass three or more certification exams to earn MCAD certification. The exams provide a valid and reliable measure of technical proficiency and expertise.
Firebrand Training offers top-quality technical education and certification training in an all-inclusive course package specifically designed for the needs and ease of our students. We attend to every detail so our students can focus solely on their studies and certification goals.
Our instructors teach to accommodate every student's learning needs through individualised instruction, hands-on labs, lab partner and group exercises, independent study, self-testing, and question/answer drills.
Firebrand Training has dedicated, well-equipped educational facilities where you will attend instruction and labs and have access to comfortable study and lounging rooms. Our students consistently say our facilities are second-to-none.
Should a student complete a Firebrand Training Program without having successfully passed all vendor examinations, the student may re-attend that program for a period of one year. Students will only be responsible for accommodations and vendor exam fees.
All MCAD candidate should have at least one year of work experience developing and/or maintaining department-level applications, components, Web or desktop clients, or back-end data services.
Some basic knowledge of .NET, for example: "Have installed Visual Studio .NET and become familiarised with it over the course of a week.", and/or, "Have used Visual Studio (Visual Interdev) to create components using ASP, C# or VB Script"
VB 5 or 6 experience including creating and using classes to build Windows based, Web based, or component based applications.
Alternative knowledge in a different object-oriented language is also acceptable, but some Visual Basic (not VBA) coding experience is advisable.
For developers intending to sit the C# exams, you must be competent with the C# language syntax before attending the course. In addition practical knowledge of another object orientated language (such as C, C++ or Java) if the candidate does not have hands-on experience with C#.
Firebrand Training staff interview all potential students regarding their technical background, degrees and certifications held, and personal fortitude. This screening process ensures a successful match between the customer and Firebrand Training toward accelerated training and certification.
Firebrand Training is an aggressive training environment. You must have an attitude aimed for success. The above prerequisites are guidelines, but many students with less experience have other background or traits that have enabled their success in accelerated training through Firebrand Training.

Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (16/10/2006 to 22/10/2006)
"A lot of ground to cover but certainly well worth the effort."
WWB, MLP.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (29/1/2007 to 4/2/2007)
"An excellent course that can do the impossible (if you're prepared to work harder than you ever have before)"
Richard Sutcliffe, Newchurch Ltd.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (13/10/2003 to 19/10/2003)
"I've been attempting to gain my MCAD for the twelve months prior to attending this
course by reading in my own time.
This course is without doubt the most intense experience I have been through. You
learn three weeks of Microsoft material in just seven days. That takes some doing
to keep the course on track and ensure all your students are understanding the material.
The pass rate on this course is amazing especially considering the level of .NET
knowledge that some of my fellow students came with. The difference really is Doug Rees.
At the end of the 7 days, I cannot believe how much I had learnt, how hard I had worked,
or how Doug kept my motivational levels so high. This guy really can teach and he makes
difficult topics, which you can't always fully understand from books, easy through the use of
lectures, demos and labs.
The only regret I have about taking this course is that I wish I had taken it 12 months earlier !.
This really is the ONLY way to learn and pass your Microsoft exams. Thanks Doug !

The instuctor was able to quickly address any problem presented as he had considerable real world experience at using the technology. All in all definately extremely hard work but worth it!"

"I was expecting a lot of hard work and high quality teaching and I wasn't disappointed. It was without a doubt the most complete course I've ever attended. How we managed to get through the entire MCAD content in 7 days was a complete mystery. This was largely down to a great tutor and determination from myself. If you believe in hard work and are determined you'll pass."
James Marchant, The University of Manchester.

Taiwo Adoti, Sandwell college.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (18/8/2003 to 24/8/2003)
"The course was the most intensive and fast-moving learning I have ever experienced. An average nights sleep being five hours grabbed between reading. Not for the faint hearted then, but the knowledge gained in such a small amount of time, and the huge support given by all the staff of the camp to prop you up under all the pressure they put you under makes it all worth while. The trainers really are experts in their fields and go above and beyond the call of duty, lucidly explaining the most difficult concepts accurately and quickly."
Mark Ryan, Mortgages For Business.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (11/12/2006 to 17/12/2006)
"I felt that every aspect of my visit to Firebrand* was superb - in my opinion its the best learning experience you could have!"
Luke Baughan, Freestyle New Media Group.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (7/11/2005 to 13/11/2005)
"Had a great week. Very happy with the results! "
Alastair Vance, Clinical Trial Service; Zest Audio.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (29/5/2006 to 4/6/2006)
"Firebrand* MCAD course was brilliant, i found it very worth while. Although the course is very intensive, with most nights reading until 2.00am, i learned a lot. There is a lot of material to get through on this course, so you may need to put more work in than others if you are not experienced in Windows/ Web development. Personally i work as Web Developer, so found this easier than the Windows module. Exams are fairly intensive, but the Self Tests that you do in the course are definately worth while. In all I would recommend this to anyone wanting to become a MCAD but do not expect an easy course."
AM, Web Developer.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (19/2/2007 to 25/2/2007)
"I was expecting a lot of hard work and high quality teaching and I wasn't disappointed. It was without a doubt the most complete course I've ever attended. How we managed to get through the entire MCAD content in 7 days was a complete mystery. This was largely down to a great tutor and determination from myself. James Marchant, The University of Manchester.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (23/5/2005 to 29/5/2005)
"The course was very intensive but was also very rewarding. I usually worked from about 8.30am until about 2am non-stop everyday for 7 days so you have to be pretty committed. It is amazing, however, what you can learn in 7 days. Having never done .NET before I managed to learn lots about .NET and pass all 3 exams and am now an MCAD. The instructor was 100% top noFirebrand*h and the course content was very good. I found the self-testing software very, very helpful. All in all I was 100% pleased with the course."
Guy Brown, Freestyle New Media Group.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (15/11/2004 to 21/11/2004)
"To be able to cover subject of three books very effectively in only one week, demonstrate a lot of scenarios and answer questions in zero time sounds almost impossible, but you know what? Doug Rees did it.
This course is intensive and you should have knowledge in object-oriented programming/design."
Handren Ahmed, I am unemployed.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (25/10/2004 to 31/10/2004)
"The course was a lot of hard work that would have been very difficult had it not been for the instructor, who i could not have achieved a pass without.
All the staff and facilities were first class, both professional and friendly,
and i would not hesitate in recommending Firebrand* to colleagues and am already considering my next step.
"
Clive Raines, Allergy Therapeutics plc.
Microsoft MCAD (7 Days) (18/9/2006 to 24/9/2006)
"The MCAD course with Firebrand* was fast paced and focused. Ideal for experienced developers wishing to re-enforce there practical knowledge with a industry recognised certification."
Gary Day, Serpent Software Ltd.
